Professional Learning Strand:  Implementing K-5 NGSS and CCSS

Target Audience: Elementary Teachers, Special Education and Title Teachers, Elementary School and District-level Administrators, and Science Support Personnel

Course Description: This workshop is focused on elementary science instruction for students in K-5.  As teachers shift their thinking to specific learning targets for each grade, there is comforting news; the NGSS were intentionally connected to the CCSS. This means that science should no longer be an isolated subject, but a wonderful context in which to build literacy skills and applying mathematics, while students become investigators of the natural world and problem solvers for our society.  Participants will have a chance to dive deeply into some performance expectation as well as build an understanding of the NGSS. For each performance expectation, participants will see and experience how to integrate specific standards of CCSS without adding more to their already full plate. Close collaboration with OSPI was done in the planning of this workshop. We also recommend particpants come with a grade level partner or a team.
